Description of the role:

Volunteers help raise awareness of cancer and promote screening in a variety of ways to suit themselves and including:
*talking to friends and family
*promoting within the workplace
*Helping on information stalls
*giving talks
We also have regular Cancer Champion catch ups with everyone on the project which are on zoom

Skills and qualities needed for the role:

Someone who is interested in raising awareness of cancer - perhaps they have a friend or family member who has had a diagnosis.
Someone happy talking to others
Someone who can show empathy

Practical information:

If volunteering at an event, travel expenses are provided
You choose when and where you volunteer and how often
Catch ups are every 6-8 weeks online

Organisation Information

The Yorkshire Cancer Community is a patient-led charity offering a voice to those affected by cancer in Yorkshire and the Humber.
It is free to join and provides information and support including a website with an A – Z of cancer charities and organisations, opportunities to join patient and carer panels, focus groups, research projects, conferences and training.
We also offer a regular newsletter, an online support group and a cancer awareness project in which volunteers help promote positive health messages.
