There are around 100 organisations in Britain that place volunteers overseas. People of all ages can get involved in volunteering from gap year students through to people taking a career break or retiring. Volunteer placements may last as long as 2 years or as little as a few days.

Most opportunities will require you to pay for your own travel arrangements, and some will require an administration fee.
