Community Fit
COMMUNITY FIT
Community Fit is a local activity group based at Community House in Harrogate. We are a team of people who meet to be social and active while giving time to Harrogate’s people and spaces.
We connect activity and community in two ways:
TEAM TASKS
We meet in Central Harrogate at 5:45pm every Wednesday and travel on foot together (walking or running) to help out in the community for an hour - we could be tidying a school allotment, sprucing up a community centre, delivering leaflets or helping prepare craft materials for a community project. Occasionally we get together on a weekend too! You don’t need to be fast or sporty to join in, nobody gets left behind.
COMMUNITY TASKS
These are flexible opportunities for individuals to support the community outside of our group sessions. Our members walk, cycle or run on their own or in pairs to help local residents by doing tasks they are unable to manage themselves - e.g. changing a lightbulb, sweeping leaves, or tidying a garage.
WHO ARE OUR MEMBERS?
Our ages range from 20s to 60+, from retirees to those with busy jobs or young families. Some of the reasons people have joined us include:
- to increase their fitness/improve their step count
- to meet new people
- to find out about different charities locally
- wanting to get fit again after illness or injury
- to get to know the area better after moving here
- to be able to volunteer without any long term commitment
- for the social side
- to be active in a fun way
- to contribute to local charities and community groups
- to find out about new opportunities
- to run with a group without it being a running club
- as part of an employer's volunteering scheme
