We run tandem clubs for people with disabilities and need volunteers to pilot the bikes. Currently we need help with our friendly Ripon Tandem Club. Our stokers (back riders) are adults with learning disabilities, visual impairments or mental health issues. Wherever we go, we have fun - and get fit at the same time!
Tandem experience is not essential as training is given, but the ability to ride a bike is helpful! You are welcome to join us for a trial ride before you commit to volunteering. Good communication skills, patience and a sense of humour are also useful.
The Ripon Club meets on Thursdays at 6pm from April to October and enjoys leisurely rides in the countryside of up to 20 miles, with a pub stop along the way.

Open Country is a charitable organisation. We aim to enable anyone with a disability to access and enjoy the countryside. We run a range of activity groups including, walking, cycling, outdoor pursuits, practical conservation work and nature study. We also run a countryside access advice service and produce a number of countryside access publications.
Open Country’s Breakfree packs for Harrogate District and Wharfedale are easy access routes which can be enjoyed by children, cyclists and people with disabilities, including wheelchair users. The packs have clear, colour maps for each location, with all the information you need to help plan your day, and enjoy the outdoors.
