Corporate Team Volunteering Opportunity (1 day)

Corporate Team Volunteering Opportunity (1 day)
Harrogate Homeless Project
Description of the role:

Corporate Awareness/Team Building Volunteering Days

We are always grateful for any corporate interest or support for Harrogate Homeless Project and think we may have something to offer business managers and employees in return.

There is so much misunderstanding about homelessness and its presence in the workplace so we have developed a free of charge Corporate Awareness/Team Building Volunteering Day based from our Harrogate centre site, to include a full programme of activities, on any mutually agreed date.

We have had fantastic feedback from all teams we have hosted so far, including Labcorp, Doubletree Hilton and Vodaphone in Autumn 2024.

‘Brilliant Day! Loved hearing from people who had used HHP’s services and how they have transformed their lives’
‘Thanks so much for an inspiring day. We would really appreciate a chance to return again!’
‘Fantastic day and extremely worthwhile’
‘The presentations were massively engaging and insightful and beautifully linked into the afternoon activities’
‘Its been really educational and I really enjoyed the variety of activities over the day’
‘I think this should be a regular engagement for all local companies’

We can promise a team building opportunity with a difference - lunch and refreshments included! Details below:

Homelessness – Hidden in Plain Sight
Are any of your colleagues concealing or on the verge of homelessness? Would you know how to support them if they were?
In today's challenging economic landscape, the line between financial stability and homelessness is thinner than ever for many workers. As employers or managers, you play a critical role in safeguarding your employees' well-being. This means that before they get to crisis point, there is potential for you to take action, ensuring they remain stable both at work and at home.
Join us at our Day centre in the middle of Harrogate for an insightful workshop to discover how homelessness happens and crucially, how proactive strategies in the workplace could help to prevent it becoming a reality.
We have worked with an HR professional to develop an interactive, 1.5 hour session and accompanying digital toolkit which we would love to be able to share with your teams.
Why not offer it as a Corporate Volunteering opportunity? Come for the day, enjoy a two course hot lunch after the workshop and then take part in a team building project at one of our local residential venues during the afternoon. Alternatively, we would be happy to deliver the workshop at your site. Optimum numbers 12 – 15.

We devise a variety of activities during the afternoon based on our needs at the time. We usually try to have two or three different things on offer which teams of 4/5 rotate around, spending an hour / hour and a half on each. Our past corporate volunteers have all done some of the following:

• Various painting projects at our Hostel
• Organising the storage in our cellar
• Bucket collecting in the Victoria Shopping centre
• Wrapping gift bags to give out to our clients at Christmas
• Delivering leaflets to local businesses or residential houses
• Making cakes to serve to clients for lunch the following day
• Gardening in our Day Centre garden
• Organising / displaying donated items for our Pop Up clothing ‘shop’ for clients

Organisation Information

Harrogate Homeless Project is a registered charity dedicated to supporting homeless people in the Harrogate District. We’re a team of committed individuals, who want to make sure that homeless people have the strategies, support and services that are needed to begin the difficult journey back to truly independent living.

We run a homeless hostel on Bower Street, which provides immediate shelter for rough sleepers accessing our No Second Night Out scheme.

Our Springboard Day Centre provides food, shower and washing facilities, skills workshops, activities, psychotherapy, GP and other medical and therapeutic services. Our staff are on hand to offer people support with their housing situation and practical help with applications and access to other services.

Our team are an incredibly friendly bunch, and possess the knowledge and expertise needed to offer multifaceted support to homeless people from all walks of life - irrespective of background, history or special needs. Our focus will always be on helping people to achieve access to sustainable independence.

If you are rough sleeping for the first time, and think you could benefit from our No Second Night Out scheme, please don’t hesitate to get in touch, by either using the referral form on our website or calling us on 01423 566900.
If you know someone who is rough sleeping, you can also get in touch in the same ways. Doing so will allow us to help them avoid rough sleeping for more than one night, and could well help them on the path back to safe and secure living.
