We’re seeking passionate individuals to join our Board of Trustees at Zero Carbon Harrogate!
This is a unique opportunity to shape the strategic direction of our charity and the work that we do; our trustees work collaboratively to champion climate action in the area, engaging with numerous businesses, community organisations and groups, local council members and key stakeholders.
You will be involved in making key decisions and be willing to take the lead on driving campaigns, strategies and actions to achieve our objectives. You should be able to present yourself professionally, have good verbal and written communication skills and basic computer skills. It is essential that our trustees can commit to attend quarterly Board meetings (online and in person) and be proactive outside of meetings.
We welcome diverse perspectives from people of all backgrounds and ages – and are particularly interested in seeing younger applicants to diversify our Board to make sure that we're including multiple perspectives within our work. We can provide support and training or mentorship as needed to help you thrive in your role.
We're looking for a variety in skills, but any experience in Governance, Legal, Finance, HR, Not-for-profit/ charitable organisations, IT, Research, Climate Action Campaigning, Town Planning, Project Management, Health and Care sector, Grant Applications and Fundraising, Community Engagement and Development/Customer Experience will be particularly useful.
The time commitment for this role will be to attend a minimum of 75% of the 6 Management Committee meetings held annually plus attending our AGM. Trustees are very welcome to attend various events and activities hosted by Zero Carbon Harrogate throughout the year and can get involved to drive the strategic direction of our working groups.

ZCH is bringing together individuals, community groups, local businesses and our politicians to work collaboratively to transform our district and become one of the first low carbon economies in the UK. We are developing and supporting low carbon projects in the district and celebrating local success stories, which showcase how businesses and individuals can significantly reduce their carbon emissions. We currently have groups focusing on food and food waste, buildings and energy, transport and carbon capture (typically through forestry management and tree planting).
