Better Connect is a Knaresborough-based non-profit organisation that aims to create a Yorkshire where every person is empowered to thrive in their life and work. We would like to further strengthen our Board in pursuit of our vision for an inclusive Yorkshire and are seeking to appoint two new Non-Executive Directors to bring fresh new support and oversight. We would love to hear from anyone who believes they would add value to our Board.
Founded in 2007, we have an established track record of leading successful partnership projects and working with a wide range of locally based partners in the heart of communities. We partner with organisations across all sectors, with a particular focus and specialism of supporting and strengthening organisations from the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector.
We believe that locally rooted organisations with a strong social mission who work in effective partnership with others have the biggest impact on individuals and communities. We exist to create those partnerships and unlock the potential of local organisations.
Our Non-Executive Directors support the strategic direction and business development of our organisation.

We would love to hear from anyone who believes they would add value to our Board, but we are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who meets some of the following:
You share our values
You have a passion for our vision and can balance challenge and support to help us realise it
You are a leader in any sector, either holding a senior leadership role or working within a leadership organisation
Your leadership covers West Yorkshire and/or other areas we work in
You have a good understanding of our stakeholders (including the Combined Authorities, Councils and VCSE sector)
You have a good understanding of the current challenges facing the voluntary and community sector
You have specific knowledge and expertise in any of the following areas
- Organisational development, such as finance and HR
- Business skills, such as diversification of income and launching new products
- Strategic policy, such as Government policy, LEP policy, and Local Authority strategy
- Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
- Legal frameworks
- Government funding
- National, regional and/or local skills landscape
The expected time commitment is around 12 days per year, which includes quarterly meetings and reading of papers.
Meetings of the full Board are usually in person at our office in Knaresborough, although we can easily accommodate hybrid meetings. Subgroups meet virtually via Teams.
