Trustee with Legal Expertise

Trustee with Legal Expertise
Emerging Voices
Description of the role:

Emerging Voices music and mental-health charity is currently seeking a new trustee with legal expertise to join its board.
About the charity:
Emerging Voices is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) founded in 2019 and registered in England with the Charity Commission (charity number 1183043). The charity aims to promote the social inclusion and realise the musical aspirations of adults with lived-experience of mental ill-health, through offering music-based opportunities.
About the role:
As a trustee on a small board, you will be at the heart of the decision-making process on the daily activities and running of the CIO, helping to shape the future of this young organisation. As a trustee you will be involved in discussing and overseeing all aspects of the charity, including strategy, projects, finances, operations and governance. Along with the other trustees, you would be responsible for ensuring that the charity is properly managed and accountable, carrying out its objects and following its constitution in accordance with the guidance of the Charity Commission.

Skills and qualities needed for the role:

We are currently looking for an individual with legal expertise. Any previous board experience would be an advantage, though not essential. A good trustee would be conscientious and able to problem-solve constructively as a member of the trustee team. An interest in music would be valuable, and a passion for improving the lives of adults with mental ill-health is essential.

Practical information:

Attendance is required at evening board meetings every two months. These take place in York, though can be joined online. Other requirements include responding to occasional correspondence in-between times, and completing any tasks for which you volunteered. The role can thus be done remotely, though local knowledge would be an advantage. Following an initial conversation and informal interview, the successful applicant would be given an induction. They would be required to provide two references, attend safeguarding training and have a DBS check, all organised and paid for by the charity.
