The Harrogate Wellbeing Choir is a free and inclusive singing group for adults with current or past experience of mental ill-health, run by the charity Emerging Voices. We are looking for volunteers to help out at rehearsals, support current members and welcome newcomers. Primarily the role would involve singing with the choir and being a social and practical support to the group. Other tasks would include helping to set up/ clear the room, handing out folders, and assisting individuals with filling out enrolment forms or helping themselves to hot drinks where necessary.
No specific skills or qualifications are required. However, suitable volunteers would:
- enjoy singing!
- be friendly and sociable
- have good interpersonal skills
- be sensitive to the needs of members
- be aware of issues such as confidentiality and safety.
The choir meets every Wednesday afternoon, 1.30pm-3.00pm, with breaks for Easter, Summer and Christmas. Wesley Chapel is a central venue, with good public transport links and nearby parking. Volunteers would need to arrive 20 mins early and leave 10 minutes late to help set up/ clear the room. Volunteers would need a DBS check, which would be paid for by Emerging Voices. They would be required to complete a short application form, provide two references and adhere to the charity's main policies, eg. on Safeguarding. An initial conversation, short induction and training will be provided.
