Volunteers will be matched with a local primary school and will visit once a week for an hour or two where they will listen to children read individually to help to increase their reading skills, their comprehension and their enjoyment.
Volunteers need to be over 18, have good spoken and written English and enjoy working with children.
1-2 hours each week during the school day. We ask that our volunteers commit to visiting their school for a full year but holidays can be taken during this time.
A DBS check will need to be carried out but this is at no cost to the volunteer.
We are unable to reimburse any travel expenses but will try to match you to a school that you can walk to or are happy travelling to.

1 in 4 primary school children in England fail to reach the expected standard of reading by the age of 11. This leaves them unable to access their secondary education fully, which will have life long consequences.
Schoolreaders recruits, places and supports volunteers to go to local primary schools and provide free, weekly, one-to-one reading support for children, prioritising those most disadvantaged.
