Allotment Volunteer

Allotment Volunteer
Time Together
Description of the role:

Time Together provides bespoke support for disabled and autistic people in the Harrogate area, with focus on improving independence, well-being, and community connection.

There is an exciting opportunity to volunteer at our lovely allotment in Starbeck. We want to hear from you if you enjoy being outdoors, getting stuck into some weeding, planting, sowing seeds and enjoying the great outdoors.

Our allotment volunteers will find themselves working alongside our clients and a dedicated team of support workers.

Skills and qualities needed for the role:

You don't need to have gardening skills or experience just a willingness to join in. We will find out enough about you to be able to give you tasks that will suit you and consider any health concerns you have.

You need to be able to manage on uneven ground as allotments, by their nature, are sloping and accessed by makeshift paths.

What you will bring:
An interest in learning how to grow fruit and veg, general fitness to manage tasks like weeding and picking crops and enthusiasm.

What you can take away:
A sense of purpose, achievement and a sense of community.

Benefits of this volunteering role:
Learning vegetable growing and general gardening skills.
Working with a group of friendly people doing something that benefits others.
Exercise in the open air.

What impact your volunteering will have:
You will be tending to crops which will be used by our clients to make their own food.
Provides our charity with much needed support.
Offers our clients the opportunity to connect with new people.

Practical information:

We meet almost every Monday (weather permitting) from 2:00pm – 4:00pm. We would welcome volunteers who can be there for the whole session or for parts of it.

We would suggest you wear warm, layered clothing and suitable sturdy footwear for gardening and digging (no open toe shoes) Suitable clothing including a sun hat and sunscreen or wet weather gear.

Bring any food or drink with you that you feel you may need.

Our allotment is on Forest Avenue, Starbeck, Harrogate and is a short walk from Starbeck train station and the bus route. There is free on street parking too.
