Parkinson's UK local groups offer friendship, support, and numerous activities for people affected by Parkinson's. In Ripon, the group is a core part of the local Parkinson's community.

You could be giving a warm welcome to new group attendees, or making sure the group activities run smoothly - and all activities are open to you too. This role is flexible, and be tweaked to suit the time you have to give. Existing volunteers will be there to support you.
What you will be doing

• Core to group meetings, you'll help set up the venue, offering a warm
• welcome to all attendees
• Getting involved in the activities the group offers - joining in to get the
• most out of these for you too
• Arrange engaging speakers and entertainment for the group
• Arrange occasional outings and meals out for the group
• Assist with fundraising events, and be responsible for a small petty cash
• float when necessary
• Update the branch committee on the sub-group meetings and activities
• Good communication skills
• Supportive; able to listen to the needs of people with Parkinson's, and reflect these to the group to shape the support provided
• Honest; you'll know when to ask for help, or when tasks might be seen as • less important, and able to share that with Parkinson's UK and your group
As a sub group organiser you would be handling personal or sensitive data, so by undertaking this role you'll need to complete our Advanced Data Protection training, which your Parkinson’s UK contact can help you to do.

The Harrogate branch of Parkinson's UK was founded in 1984. The aim of the branch is to provide information, raise awareness of Parkinson's and funds to help people locally with Parkinson's and to have fun.
We hold monthly meetings (second Tuesday of the month 2-4pm) and events. At the afternoon meetings we normally have a guest speaker.
These speakers talk on a wide variety of subjects.
We publish a quarterly newsletter to keep members up-to-date with
branch events and activities.
We fund raise to provide free exercise classes and provide transport to those members who have difficulty in getting to hospitals and doctors' appointments.
We can help members to access counselling services and provide a limited amount of assistance to carers.
Please do come and attend one of of our meetings to see for yourself you will be made most welcome.
