Papyrus - Prevention of Young Suicide
Description of the role:

- Attend events and run stalls such as Pride, county fairs, wellbeing days, University freshers’ fairs, and fundraising events.

- Deliver presentations to people in your community, such as schools, workplaces, and faith groups. These are 30-minute sessions called SP-ARK: Suicide Prevention – Awareness, Resource, Knowledge

- Write blogs posts and get involved on social media about your lived experiences of suicide and mental health.

- Help us to reach your communities by connecting us with groups and organisations you care about.

- Share new ideas: we’re always open to new opportunities to make our communities suicide-safer.

Please note: we do not have volunteering opportunities on our helpline, HOPELINE247

Skills and qualities needed for the role:

To attend events and run stalls:
Confidence in speaking to people - or at least the willingness to push yourself to grow in confidence in this role

If you want to deliver presentations you will also need:
Presentation skills - we don't expect you to already be confident in delivering presentations as long as you're willing to learn and grow in confidence in doing this

Self motivation - some of this role involves motivating yourself to network with people in your community to find opportunities to deliver our SPARK presentation

Practical information:

Our roles are completely flexible as we attend a number of events throughout the year. You can also create your own opportunities by raising awareness in your own community. The number of hours you do will be up to you, this role can fit around work and other commitments.

We provide 3 training sessions for all volunteers, including safeguarding and suicide prevention training. For those who want to deliver presentations we also have a session for this.
