We are looking for new volunteers to join our team on the Ripon canal. Under the guidance of Julie, our local operative, you will assist in a wide range of maintenance tasks. No two days will be the same! Whether it’s helping a boat through the lock, talking to customers, litter picking, painting, or vegetation management, you will help keep the local waterways looking good. It's a great way to meet other local volunteers, learn new skills, and hear about other volunteering opportunities.
While no specific skills are required, a good level of physical fitness and willingness to get stuck in with practical tasks are needed. Knowledge and interest in the waterways and environment would also be beneficial. The most important qualities we are looking for in a volunteer are a hands-on approach and can-do attitude, and flexibility to work on your own or with others.
Ideally volunteers will be able to give one day a week, Monday to Thursday approx. 9am to 4pm. Full training and safety inductions will be provided. Having your own transport would be a benefit due to the area the role covers. All applicants will undergo an informal interview and reference check, unfortunately we cannot guarantee all candidates will be accepted.

The Canal and River Trust is entrusted with the care of 2,000 miles of waterways in England and Wales. On top of maintaining canals and rivers that are often over 200 years-old, we are responsible for an enormous network of bridges, embankments, towpaths, aqueducts, docks and reservoirs alongside everything else that makes up our wonderful waterways.
Our mission is to inspire as many people as possible to connect with our canals and rivers. We believe that the true potential of our canals and rivers and their long-term survival will only be secured if we fully engage with our visitors, neighbours and business partners.
