Volunteer to deliver Meals on Wheels in Harrogate and surrounding areas!

Volunteer to deliver Meals on Wheels in Harrogate and surrounding areas!
Harrogate Neighbours
Description of the role:

We established our Meals on Wheels service in 2012, and we are now in our 13th year of providing this essential service to over 100 elderly and vulnerable residents in the local area. The closure of the council-run meals on wheels service left a real gap, and we wanted to respond to local demand. Our team of dedicated volunteers now deliver over 100 homemade meals every day. but we need more volunteers as more meals are requested.

We know that our Meals on Wheels service is More Than Just the Meal. This is because we help to tackle isolation and loneliness, which are extremely common for older people. Our volunteers provide much needed social contact. They are also trained to spot potential safety hazards and check on our clients’ well-being, and any concerns can then be mentioned to family members or the relevant health professionals.

The Food Angels volunteers are vital to this extremely important service, as they are the ones delivering nutritious, fresh, and delicious hot or cold meals to vulnerable or socially isolated elderly clients in the community around Harrogate and Knaresborough.
Often our elderly clients spend their days alone, and our Food Angels are a source of light and happiness when arriving on their doorsteps!

We are looking for volunteers to support us with deliveries, even if it's only one day a week, or even a month! If you have some free time to give, we would love to have you on board as a Food Angel!

Food Angels collect meals from The Cuttings ( opposite Starbeck railway station and easily accessible) where our kitchen facilities are. They then deliver meals with the use of their own cars to our wonderful clients, carry out short wellbeing checks, and update the Hospitality Coordinator on any client queries or concerns.

We ask that volunteers arrive to collect their food deliveries at 11.30am, and they usually return to The Cuttings site by 1pm.

Come and join our wonderful team of Angels, if you can spare even just one lunch time per week or every other week! We'd love to have you join the team, and make a difference to so many lives while doing so.
