Description of the role:

Are you passionate about supporting women who have experienced domestic abuse regain ownership of their lives? Would you like to help us support women with their journey and help raise awareness of our work. Are you able to help us with the practical side of rebuilding a life? Would you like a flexible role where every contribution is appreciated? Would you like to volunteer in a friendly, supportive and safe environment with great learning and training opportunities? Would you like a chance to meet new people whilst also making a huge difference? Are you someone who has experienced domestic abuse or someone who can empathise?
The service is a women-led peer service and is therefore restricted to women/non-binary (female at birth) applicants under the Equality Act 2010 Schedule 9 Part 1 & Section 7(2)e of the Sex Discrimination Act 1975.

Skills and qualities needed for the role:

We are looking for positive, outgoing and enthusiastic people to join our volunteer team. You will be active in helping with the practical side of things- collection and delivery of food parcels, clothing and furniture. You may turn your hand to some light DIY or help us source items our women and families need. The role will involve helping at our key times throughout the year (Easter, summer and Christmas) with sourcing donations and organising and delivering these donations. This requires an open and non judgemental approach with a positive outlook, to build trust and ensure the provision of a safe and supportive service. As such we are looking for someone who is reliable, trustworthy and someone who has good organisational and time management skills.

Organisation Information

New Beginnings Peer Support is a peer led charitable organisation supporting female survivors of domestic abuse in the Harrogate District. We provide a safe environment for women and their children to re-establish themselves, reach their goals and achieve a happier, healthier future.
New Beginnings is operating throughout the coronavirus outbreak and services include:-
• 1:1 support via phone/video calls including relevant signposting,
• Peer support WhatsApp group sharing information, encouraging positive support network & providing access to practical & emotional support,
• Private Facebook group & Instagram Account– offering signposting and information,
• Public Facebook page sharing information and raising awareness of the realities of domestic abuse.
Emotional support is provided through peers, mentoring & increasing your support network with practical support including but not limited to housing, business start-ups, finding employment, budgeting, food bank requests, clothing needs, support with family court. All to with the aim of improving your overall health & wellbeing.
This group is for those who feel ready to move on with their life and would like support to do so in a safe and understanding environment. Please note we are not a counselling group. Our aim is to help people start afresh and complement existing services.
