Could you help empower people affected by multiple sclerosis by giving information about MS, providing emotional support by phone, email or in person and signposting people to services and support in Harrogate & District? As a Support Volunteer you could also help build partnerships locally with health and social care professionals or other relevant organisations and provide financial support via our grants programme, for example for essential home adaptations. Our Lead Support Volunteer will help you get to grips with this very rewarding role and you would receive training and ongoing support from our team of volunteers and local staff member.
If you have good listening and communication skills and good interpersonal skills, this role could be a perfect fit for you. We're looking for someone who is caring and empathetic, with the ability to adopt an objective rather than a personal perspective and maintain confidentiality. Ideally we'd welcome someone who is confident using the internet and email.
You will be volunteering from home and out and about in Harrogate & District area. You will be asked to attend an informal chat to talk about your skills and experiences and learn more about the role. If you decide it's a good fit, we'll ask you to complete a disclosure check. You'll receive training to support you in your role and ongoing support from our Lead Support Volunteer and you'll also have the opportunity to attend forums to share ideas and discuss common issues with other Support Volunteers. We will reimburse out of pocket expenses - such as lunch and travel - in line with the MS Society expenses policy.

At the MS Society we put people living with multiple sclerosis at the heart of everything we do. Our vision is a world free from the effects of MS and our goal is to one day find a cure.
But until then, we'll keep doing all we can to enable people living with MS to live their lives knowing they don't have to face MS alone. We have big aspirations and we need passionate people to help us achieve our ambitious goals.
The local group is run by a small, friendly team of volunteers who all have experience of MS. We provide a range of information, activities, services and support to meet the needs of those affected by MS locally. We also do our best to have some fun!
