The Home Library Service delivers books, audio books, and information to people who find it difficult to visit their local Library in person. Volunteers visit people in their homes to deliver pre-selected items, and to spend time talking with them – particularly about their choices and requests – before returning to the Library. Volunteers need to be able to respond to changes in the health and home circumstances of the people they visit, and offer them extra information as appropriate. Volunteers go out in pairs once a fortnight and receive travel expenses incurred whilst delivering.
Someone who has an interest in reading, is punctual and reliable, with good communication and interpersonal skills. Existing volunteers say they enjoy forming relationships with the people they visit, and feel they are contributing to a very worthwhile service.
At the moment we need a couple of volunteers who could help cover regular volunteers' absence. The time commitment is approximately 2 hours on a Thursday morning. It involves some lifting and carrying and may include using stairs and lifts. There is also a small amount of paperwork. This opportunity is available to men and women aged 18 years and older; there is no upper age limit.
A current Driving Licence and access to a vehicle is essential.

The libraries provide books, media and information for local residents in North Yorkshire.
The Library Service also provide a free delivery service to customers who find it difficult to visit the Library and Information Centre themselves.
