Collections Management and Conservation
This role has never been as vital as it is now for the organisation. We are currently working hard to manage and protect our collections, ensuring their futures for future generations. We really need volunteers to come and get involved with helping to move and document the collection. We are also keen to recruit those interested in gaining experience in conservation.
What’s involved?
You will be trained in a variety of skills including textiles conservation, cataloguing and collections management. This is quite a practical role but you must also be good with looking at small details.~
Is this role for me?
This is an ongoing project so is good for somebody who would like a to give their time to help us shape the future of our collections whilst learning new skills, including photography and conservation cleaning. We are particularly keen to recruit volunteers interested in gaining experience in conservation and looking to add to their CV. This is a great opportunity is especially for students seeking careers in the heritage sector.
• Interest in museums/collections
• Ability to work with close attention to detail
• IT skills or the interest and ability to learn
• Good written communication skills
• Organised/methodical
• Ability to work in a team but able to work on own initiative when required
• Hours are flexible but 2-3 hours a week currently on a Wednesday morning 9.30 -12.30. This can be a time limited volunteering opportunity or on going.
• Based at the Prison and Police museum and at the Town Hall store. There may be the need to visit the other museums as required. The town hall store is accessible only by stairs.

Preservation of historic buildings and artefacts, education services and responsible for The Prison & Police, The Workhouse and The Courthouse Museums in Ripon. We have around 140 volunteers who fulfil a variety of roles which range from helping with education visits to gardening, cataloguing the collections to keeping our accounts, repairing brickwork to researching the stories behind the buildings.
