Church Assistants open up the world of St Mary’s Church, a masterpiece of Victorian Gothic, and connect visitors with its beauty and significance. They answer visitor queries and offer exceptional service to help them get the most from their visit, giving a warm welcome every time.
This role will suit people who have an enthusiastic and friendly manner, enjoy meeting people, are keen to learn and are passionate about historic buildings, conservation and the aims of the Trust.
Members of the Church Assistants team commit, in pairs, to a seasonal rota (Easter to September) comprising an afternoon sessions of 3 hours duration. Anticipated commitment is typically one duty per fortnight, or more if you can. All Church Assistants are expected to attend the following training: Two day Estate Induction; Service Promise training; Radio training; Role specific training including a half day Church familiarisation session. Out-of-pocket travel costs between home and volunteering place will be paid up to a maximum of 40 miles, and other reasonable expenses agreed in advance

A World Heritage site. The range of voluntary work available is almost limitless and much of it takes place all year round.
