Description of the role:

A visit to Fountains Abbey isn’t complete without enjoying coffee and cake! You’ll help with all aspects of running the bustling Abbe Tea Room, from serving coffee to keeping the tea room clean and tidy. You’ll be on hand to give visitors a warm welcome and exceptional service.

Skills and qualities needed for the role:

This role will suit people who are enthusiastic and friendly, enjoy meeting people and love providing good service. You’re a team player, competent in handling cash and able to work in a busy environment. It’s likely that you’ll also be interested in history or the natural environment and be passionate about the aims of the Trust.

Practical information:

Tea room volunteers commit to a rota comprising sessions of about 3 hours duration. They normally volunteer at least once a fortnight. Tea room volunteers are expected to attend the following training: Two day Estate Induction; Service Promise training; Role specific training including food hygiene. Out-of-pocket travel costs between home and volunteering place will be paid up to a maximum of 40 miles, and other reasonable expenses agreed in advance.

Fountains Abbey is owned by the National Trust. One of the most fascinating and historic sites in the whole of Europe. Cistercian Abbey, 18th century Water Garden, Elizabethan Hall and Deer Park. A World Heritage site. The range of voluntary work available is almost limitless and much of it takes place all year round.
