Leave a Gift in Your Will

Leave a Gift in Your Will

Leaving a legacy to Harrogate & District Community Action will ensure that the Harrogate District remains a great place to live and work for future generations.

Writing a Will is an important way to ensure your wishes are carried out and that your savings and possessions are given to the people you choose to receive them.

Charitable legacies are exempt from Inheritance tax, which means you can reduce the overall tax bill for your loved ones by naming a charity in your Will.

Leaving a gift to charity does not have to mean leaving a large amount of money. A small gift can make a huge difference to a local charity. Charitable legacies are vital in enabling HADCA to continue our work in the Harrogate District.

About Harrogate & District Community Action (HADCA)

HADCA is a local charity which provides information, advice and support services for local volunteers, charities and community projects. Each year we help hundreds of volunteers and charities right across the Harrogate District in the communities of Ripon, Harrogate, Boroughbridge, Knaresborough, Masham, Pateley Bridge and the surrounding villages. Leaving a legacy to Harrogate & District Community Action is a great way to leave a lasting gift to the Harrogate community.

What is the next step?

You will need to visit a solicitor to draw up your Will. Before you do this it is advisable to consider:

What is the value of your estate?

Prepare a list of your assets and liabilities. Assets might include your property, all your personal possessions, digital assets (e.g. music) and your money. Your liabilities may include mortgages, loans, and overdrafts.

Who do you wish to be Executors and Guardians?

Write down the full name and address of those you would like to appoint. You will also need to ask their consent.

How do you want your estate to be distributed?

Gifts can be anything you own and can take the form of specific items, cash amounts, or a percentage of your estate. Make a list of the full names and addresses of those you wish to name as beneficiaries in your Will.
