A concert starring Mozart’s much loved Requiem and Ave Verum Corpus. Of the more than 600 works written by Mozart none is shrouded in more mystery than the Requiem, which was unfinished when he died. How much of the music did he write himself? Did he know who commissioned the work? Did he write a Mass for the dead for himself? None of this really matters when you listen to the music as there is nothing quite like it .
To accompany these Harrogate Choral will also be performing Rory Wainwright Johnson’s A Glimpse of the Light - a piece written as a partner for Mozart’s Requiem, the composer states that as he is not a religious person he wanted to offer a slightly different, more worldly approach to the concept of imagining an ‘afterlife’ that tied in more secular or natural themes. The choir will also be singing Da Pacem Domine by Arvo Pärt a work commissioned for a peace concert in Barcelona in 2004.
Harrogate Choral Society will once again be joined by the National Festival Orchestra and will be conducted by David Lawrence.
