GENERAL QUESTIONS

DO I NEED TO BE FIT?
For Team Tasks - You need to be fit enough to walk up to a couple of miles (each way) at a reasonable pace with the group and then be physically active for the hour we spend helping out.
For Community Tasks - You commit to travelling under your own steam for all or part of the journey so you can use it as an excuse to get some extra steps in, or to dust your bike off if you want to!  Some tasks will be more physical than others but we try to give an accurate description so you only choose what you feel comfortable with.

DO I NEED ANY SPECIAL SKILLS?
No!  Just a willingness to get stuck in.  Our Team Tasks are straightforward and the representative from the group we are helping will give us clear instructions.  You will not need to do anything you don’t feel comfortable doing.  For our Community Tasks we describe them in as much detail as possible before you sign up, so you can choose what you are happy to do.

HOW DO I SIGN UP FOR TEAM TASKS?
Once you have joined Community Fit here we will register you with “Spond”, the website/app we use.  You can sign up for all Team Tasks on Spond.

HOW DO I SIGN UP FOR COMMUNITY TASKS?
Please let us know you are interested in joining in with Community Tasks on your application form.  We will then be in touch to discuss further training with you. We will also require you to undertake a DBS check (which we will pay for). Once you have completed your training and DBS check you will be able to sign up for Community Tasks via Spond.

DO I NEED TO BRING ANYTHING?
Multipurpose/gardening gloves are useful for almost every task we do.  We have some to borrow if you forget yours or don’t have any for Team Tasks.  For Community Tasks you would need to provide your own.  All other equipment is provided by the people you are helping.

WHAT IS SPOND?
Once you've joined as a member of Community Fit we register you with "Spond", the website we use to organise who's coming on our tasks, it's very straightforward to use.  They also have a great app but you don't have to use this if you don't want to.  You'll also get regular emails letting you know what's happening.

DO I HAVE TO PAY?
There is no charge for taking part but if you would like to you can make a donation to HADCA here.  You can put in the message that it's for Community Fit, or forward your Justgiving confirmation email to CommunityFit@hadca.org.uk letting us know that your donation is for us.  Thank you!

TEAM TASKS

Team tasks are our group sessions that take place every Wednesday evening.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Something that is comfortable for you to walk/jog/run and help out in, and that you don’t mind possibly getting a bit mucky!

WHAT IF IT'S DARK?
We don’t stop when it’s dark in the evenings!  We wear high viz clothes if we have them and everyone must have a head torch or a chest light (we have some LED light vests to borrow if you forget yours).

WHAT IF IT'S COLD?
We come dressed in plenty of layers, with hats and gloves too if we need them.   You’ll know beforehand if we will be working inside or outside.

WHAT IF IT'S RAINING?
Come in your waterproof jacket!

DO I NEED TO COME EVERY WEEK?
No.  Some of our members come once a month or less.  We will always be happy to see you!

WHERE DO YOU MEET FOR TEAM TASKS?
Our HQ is at Community House, 46-50 East Parade, Harrogate HG1 5RR.  We meet at the other side of the building from the main door - on the right hand side if you are looking at it from the main road, look out for our Community Fit banner on the fence and then it’s the black door on the left past the bins.

CAN I BRING MY CHILDREN?
Most of our events are suitable for 16+, please submit a joining form for your young person and we will be in touch to discuss further.  We may in the future be able to put on family activities that would suit younger people and we will advertise these to all our members.

CAN I BRING MY DOG?
Sadly not.  We absolutely love dogs but for safety reasons we can’t allow them on our Team or Community Tasks.
