Where To Turn for information, support and opportunities

Where To Turn for information, support and opportunities

Thank you to everyone who joined us at our AGM event 2016 to look back over the last year and to look ahead at the challenges we face together.

We were welcomed by Geoff Howard, the Chair of Hampsthwaite Memorial Hall who gave a short history of this fantastic community hub.

Karen Weaver, our Chief Executive, explained how HARCVS is Where to Turn for:

Information – The new Where To Turn Directory signposts to services and activities supporting good health and wellbeing

Advice and Guidance – HARCVS supports voluntary organisations to strengthen and develop

Thank you to 3 HARCVS members who shared how we had helped them to achieve their plans during the year.
Val Longley, Harrogate Mind
Bernadette Barnes, St Wilfrid’s Community Centre in Ripon
Peri Langdale, Raise Your Hats

Support for individuals in the community – The Harrogate Easier Living Project  (HELP) supports older or vulnerable people to live independently in their own homes

We heard from Julie Proudler, Co-ordinator of the services based in Ripon and Steve Smith, one of our dedicated volunteer drivers.

Opportunities to volunteer – The new HARCVS online Harrogate District Volunteering Directory helps people to find the ideal volunteer role to match their interests and availability.

We were pleased to welcome Richard Flinton, Chief Executive, North Yorkshire County Council, as our guest speaker. Richard spoke about The Power of Partnership and recognised the challenges the voluntary sector faces to deliver vital services for vulnerable people.
