Supporting each other in 2021

Ongoing local partnership effort to mobilise support

At HADCA we’re fans of the Action for Happiness movement and their inspirational online daily posts, accompanied by beautiful and quirky graphics. We’re encouraged to focus on small steps to try and boost happiness, spread kindness and inspire others to do the same; undoubtedly quite a challenge at this difficult time.

However at HADCA we’re incredibly fortunate to witness kindness being spread on a daily basis. Yes we know the difficulties people are facing and the worries and stress brought about by the impact of COVID, but we’re also part of an ongoing local partnership effort to mobilise support, offer practical help and bring good cheer. This was so evident during the last few months and it’s now clear that all the amazing work carried out during 2020 needs to keep going in 2021.

What does this mean in practice? If you or someone you know doesn’t have support from family, friends or neighbours then there is a network of community support organisations across the District who can help, in Boroughbridge, Harrogate, Knaresborough, Masham, Pateley Bridge and Ripon. Back in March 2020 they were asked by the County Council to become part of a network of 23 across the county, also working closely with Borough Council and NHS partners.

With their amazing teams of volunteers they can assist with shopping, prescription collections, errands and providing information, and are currently gearing up to be able to help with transporting people for their vaccinations. They are also in regular contact with the wide range of other groups also helping out at a local level, such as the Rotary and Lions groups, emergency food and clothing providers and mutual aid groups.

The key message is to don’t delay getting in touch if you are struggling. All the details can be found on our website at www.hadca.org.uk or you can ring our HELP team on 01423 813096 and they will signpost you to the correct organisation for your area.

There are leaflets giving details of local food support here and financial and mental health support here

At HADCA we’re also concerned about the challenges being faced by local community groups and organisations as activities continue to be curtailed and fundraising efforts are restricted.  It’s so important that the rich and varied tapestry of community and volunteer action services survives to be ready for when we all emerge from the current crisis. With this in mind we’re delighted that in its third year THE LOCAL FUND for the Harrogate District is prioritising support with running costs for smaller groups.

Whilst the mass vaccination programme is being rolled out there is so much we can all do to support each other, even if it just being patient and kind.
