AbilityNet
Do You Know Someone Who Struggles to Get to An Online Digital Training Centre?
Although there are online digital training centres spread across our area, there are individuals who struggle to get to a centre:
* A visually impaired person who lives in a small village,
* Someone who has COPD and struggles to leave the house,
* Someone with mental health issues who struggles in a communal environment,
* Full-time carer looking after a loved-one, or
* Perhaps someone who has recently had a stroke or heart attack.
AbilityNet is a nationwide charity which provides FREE one-to-one IT support, guidance, and assistance to anyone living with any disability or is an older person in the comfort of their own home. They have a dedicated group of volunteers in our area who have all been DBS checked. Whilst they do not provide equipment, they can:
• Provide impartial advice on options to consider
• Set up mobile phones, computers, tablets
• Load hardware and software
• Trouble shoot problems
• Deliver coaching and support on a one-to-one basis
• Adapt technology to suit the individual, eg changing the speaking speed, screen colours, magnification
