Trustees & Governance
Governance: the way committee members’ work with staff, volunteers, service users and members to make sure the organisation is run properly and effectively and meets the needs for which it was set up.
Voluntary sector groups are run by a management committee (also known as trustees or directors) which is a group of unpaid volunteers who have legal responsibility for the overall management, decision making, direction, accountability and performance of the group. These activities are collectively known as ‘governance’. If a group has very few or no paid staff, Management Committee members may also become directly involved in its day-to-day running.
