Where to Turn

Harrogate & District Deaf Society

Our mission is to provide financial aid to the D/deaf community in North Yorkshire.

We fund a Resource Centre which is situated in Harrogate Community House. The Resource Centre is open on Wednesday afternoons 2.00 pm - 4.00pm and there is no need to book an appointment. Adrian Gillhespey (adrian.gillhespey@northyorks.gov.uk) is a member of the sensory team and will be happy to demonstrate and provide many types of home equipment to help D/deaf people.

For example, if you have difficulty hearing your doorbell, alarm clock, telephone ringing, baby crying or smoke alarm, we can demonstrate equipment which is extra loud or uses flashing lights or vibrating pads to alert you. Similarly, if you have difficulty hearing on the phone, we can demonstrate some equipment to help with this.

We also demonstrate conversation aids, cordless headphones (so that you can listen to a louder volume on TV without disturbing other people) and loop systems to help you hear sound more clearly if you use hearing aids.

Over the years we have given financial aid to the D/deaf community in North Yorkshire for many different reasons so if you feel you have a financial need, please get in touch.
