Dignity Through Education
Established in 2015, Dignity Through Education is a small association based in Harrogate. It provides additional funding to help the children of Sri Lankan tea plantation workers attend university. Education is the only way that these children from a ‘forgotten community’ can look forward to escaping the poverty trap within the tea plantation areas. Independent donors are matched with the students to help provide support for them to attend university.
Initially, 3 students received aid from Dignity Through Education, and last year 2 of them received Degrees in Law and in IT and Communication Skills. Currently 21 students are supported. 10 will be completing their Degree courses in 2020. There are many more students awaiting similar help if donors who are willing to pay just £12 per student per month can be found.
Donors will be put in touch with the students.
