Description of the role:

With a network of over 600 shops, our diverse volunteers play an integral role in championing Oxfam's values, running the shops, and promoting our life-saving work to the wider community. Whether you prefer to work behind the scenes or in a customer-facing role, there's plenty of tasks for you to get involved with.

Many of our shops also sell through our online shop and therefore may have vacancies for volunteers keen to develop this area of work.

Can you spare a few Hours a week, to Help us out, with our fight against Poverty.

About The Role

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help us sell our fantastic and eclectic donated stock online, BASED IN-STORE at our amazing Harrogate Book Shop.

Are you interested in learning new skills?

Great photography skills? we can teach you, or you may even teach us!

Do you have an interest in online sales?

Great photography skills? yep, we need these!

A way with words and a flair for descriptions?

A passion for clothes, accessories, homewares, music, or books?

Can you spare a few hours a week to help us?

Full training will be provided.

Skills and qualities needed for the role:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Depending on the needs of the shop and your interests, you may be involved in the following:

· Using the shop's guidelines to sort and price donated books, ensuring all books are sold at the best possible price

· Identifying and researching the value of collectible items

· Preparing items for sale

· Photographing items

· Researching items

· Listing items using Oxfam's bespoke online shop tool

· Packaging and sending out items

· There may be the opportunity to take responsibility for a specific section of books

We encourage our volunteers to develop an understanding of all aspects of the shop's work so that they can support the whole team as necessary.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

You do not need specific skills and experience but the following will be useful:

· Commitment to Oxfam's values of empowerment, accountability and inclusiveness.

· Ability to work within Oxfam's policies and shop guidelines.

· Enthusiasm for reading.

· Knowledge of collectible books.

· Ability to work well as part of a team and under own initiative.

The shop manager will contact you as soon as possible and will arrange a convenient time for you to visit the shop and have a chat about volunteering.

Start date:

As soon as you have had an initial chat with the shop manager and after receipt of suitable references, you can arrange a start date.

· We aim to reply to applications within two working days. If you haven’t heard from us, please check your junk folder or get in touch directly.
