Organisation Information

The Harrogate District of Sanctuary started in November 2016. We are a grassroots organisation but in December 2016 the Harrogate Borough Council voted unanimously to endorse the project.
We are part of the national network "Cities of Sanctuary" and we aim to make Harrogate District a place where Refugees and Asylum seekers feel safe, welcome and included in our community.
We aim to raise awareness in the community and to work with other groups and organisations with similar aims, such as Refugees Welcome in Harrogate and Islamic Association of Harrogate.
We hold open meetings 3 or 4 times a year to help us raise awareness and can provide speakers to local groups who would like to find out more.
Further information can be found at or information about the national network can be found at
