Description of the role:

Actively supporting the client network during peer support group sessions and/or WhatsApp Group chat (peer network and/or study accountability group).
Supporting group activities e.g. sports classes, family mindfulness events/initiatives.
Researching and sharing relevant information for the group as a whole or for a particular client.
Role may be combined with volunteer outreach role.

Skills and qualities needed for the role:

High level of engagement skills and communication skills.
Awareness of safeguarding processes or willingness to attend training .
Trustworthy and reliable.
Personal knowledge of being subjected to domestic abuse.

This role is flexible and variable.

Organisation Information

New Beginnings Peer Support is a peer led charitable organisation supporting female survivors of domestic abuse in the Harrogate District. We provide a safe environment for women and their children to re-establish themselves, reach their goals and achieve a happier, healthier future.
New Beginnings is operating throughout the coronavirus outbreak and services include:-
• 1:1 support via phone/video calls including relevant signposting,
• Peer support WhatsApp group sharing information, encouraging positive support network & providing access to practical & emotional support,
• Private Facebook group & Instagram Account– offering signposting and information,
• Public Facebook page sharing information and raising awareness of the realities of domestic abuse.
Emotional support is provided through peers, mentoring & increasing your support network with practical support including but not limited to housing, business start-ups, finding employment, budgeting, food bank requests, clothing needs, support with family court. All to with the aim of improving your overall health & wellbeing.
This group is for those who feel ready to move on with their life and would like support to do so in a safe and understanding environment. Please note we are not a counselling group. Our aim is to help people start afresh and complement existing services.
