Description of the role:

You'll be volunteering in the catchment area of the Skell Valley between Dallowgill and Ripon as part of the Heritage Lottery funded Skell Valley Project co-led by The National Trust and Nidderdale AONB. You'll be carrying out a range of conservation tasks alongside and leading a small team of Skell Valley Volunteer Rangers. Tasks will include; removal of invasive species, walling, fencing, hedge laying and coppicing, footpath maintenance, and the restoration of ancient woodland sites. There will also be some ecological monitoring and surveying opportunities. You'll assist the Skell Valley Ranger with the planning of tasks and supporting volunteers with their delivery.

Skills and qualities needed for the role:

You'll have a love for nature and the outdoors and be happy to get stuck into practical tasks. You'll enjoy working to help enhance the natural beauty and rich history of the Skell Valley, making space for nature and people. You'll take the lead in managing and organising tasks and enjoy working alongside others.

Practical information:

The team will get together on Thursdays each week. You'll receive on the job training from our Skell Valley Ranger on the use of hand tools and basic equipment such as strimmers. There'll also be training on manual handling, ecological surveying and monitoring.
