Description of the role:

Join the Knaresborough Civic Society committee as a Planning Representative.

The role includes:
-Check the planning portal for new planning applications on a monthly basis.
• Be the contact for statutory planning consultations from HBC
• Circulate contentious planning applications to committee members so they are aware of them.
• Assess all planning applications in the conservation area and all listed building applications to see if they should be discussed at a committee meeting. If unclear discuss with the committee.
• Produce copies of the most relevant drawings and documents for discussion at a committee meeting.
• Prepare reasons for objecting, commenting, or supporting ahead of the meeting.
• Present and discuss the plans at the committee meeting.
• Draft letter to HBC with reasons for objecting, commenting, or supporting after the meeting and circulate for approval/comments if required.

Skills and qualities needed for the role:

Ideally some knowledge of the planning system and planning policy – most importantly what constitutes a genuine planning concern.

Practical information:

Mainly working from home. Approx 4-6 hours in total per month. Also attending committee & speakers meetings in Knaresborough, approx one every 6 weeks, 7:30 - 9pm approx on an evening to be agreed.
