Living History Costumed Tour Guides for 1920s Station House Project

Living History Costumed Tour Guides for 1920s Station House Project
Wensleydale Railway
Description of the role:

The Wensleydale Railway has received NLHF lottery funding to renovate the Leeming Bar Station House into a living museum and education centre. We're taking our visitors back to the 1920s and we need people who love a bit of live-action drama and dressing up in period costume to send our visitors on a journey through time in the Station House. Help us make the heritage experience real by meeting and greeting our visitors in the kitchen, the Station Master's Parlour, the Parcels Office, the Ticket Office, the Waiting Room and the Wash Room. You'll be telling them all about the history of the railway, the Station House, the people who lived there and the local community. If you enjoy talking about what you know and passing that knowledge onto others, get in touch with us.

Skills and qualities needed for the role:

We will offer full training but if you can bring a flair for pubic-facing roles, a bit of acting, and an interest in this period of history, then you'll be making a great start. You might be wanting to add skills in speaking to the public, helping children learn, or platforming your thespian abilities for a Further Education application or to boost a CV, or you might just enjoy being part of a lively, like-minded team. It would also be a great opportunity to learn skills for working with Early Years or Key Stages 1 and 2 (for childcare or teaching) or with older people (for social care).

Practical information:

You can pick and choose your hours (every day except Monday between 10am and 5pm*) but we'd ask you to commit to one day a week if you can. You'll get an induction, a Personal Railway Safety Course, lots of subject training and the opportunity to qualify as a First Aider too.
*We're open on Wednesday and weekends until mid-July and then every day except Mondays in the school holidays until September.
Public transport links to Leeming Bar are good.
