Zero Carbon Harrogate (ZCH) is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) working to effect change across the district so that we can rapidly become a leading low carbon economy. The organisation is made up of volunteers only.
We are now looking for an individual to provide administrative and practical support for our Book Club, working alongside the current lead.
The Book Club was established by the ZCH Engagement Group in order to establish an alternative way for individuals to learn about and engage with environmental issues. Such issues touch our personal lives as well as societal structures, affecting moral and ethical relations between humans and non-human life forms in so many ways. Writing and reading may not lead directly to practical action, but they can raise awareness of the possibilities and draw attention to the urgency of the cause they seek to present.
The Book Club runs monthly and aims to encourage members to read and then discuss various novels and works of popular non-fiction, across multiple perspectives, on the subject of the environment, to help think about the world in different ways.
This role will require the individual to take an active part in planning, running and facilitating the meetings, which will require reading the books under discussion.
Specific tasks will include;
Setting up Zoom meetings for the group
Acting as host for the meetings by managing link access and letting people into the meeting
Acting as a meeting moderator working with the group leader to ensure best use of the available time and individual contributions.
The individual should have good interpersonal skills and an interest in books, particularly as they relate to environmental matters.
This role will require an estimated time commitment of two hours per month, excluding time allocated to book reading.

ZCH is bringing together individuals, community groups, local businesses and our politicians to work collaboratively to transform our district and become one of the first low carbon economies in the UK. We are developing and supporting low carbon projects in the district and celebrating local success stories, which showcase how businesses and individuals can significantly reduce their carbon emissions. We currently have groups focusing on food and food waste, buildings and energy, transport and carbon capture (typically through forestry management and tree planting).
