Mind In Harrogate District - The Acorn Centre
Description of the role:

This service offers the opportunity for service users to meet with a volunteer befriender on a regular basis for walks, a café visit or a shopping trip.

Skills and qualities needed for the role:

Friendly, Engaging , Confident, Mental health experience preferably, Compassionate, Positive and Understanding. Good English language skills.

Practical information:

Training and an induction will be provided, at a minimum of safeguarding and mental health awareness. We will be expecting volunteers to meet on a regular basis (weekly/fortnightly) basis for about an hour or more if they can.
We are hoping to reach out to the more rural market towns e.g. Patley Bridge, Ripon etc so ideally volunteers located out there or willing to travel a little.

During the coronavirus outbreak, when activities are not taking place, Mind in Harrogate District continues to be available weekdays between 10am – 4pm to offer telephone (01423) 503335 and on-line support to people who are struggling with their mental health. If you would like to receive a weekly catch-up call then please let them know.
Programme of free activity (via Zoom) open to anyone who needs support with their mental health includes Relaxation; Arts & crafts; Healthy Eating; Budgeting and Money management; Bereavemnet support group; Wellbeing during COVID; Coffee mornings; Singing; Choir. To register interest for any of these groups call 01423 503335.

Mind works in partnership with Citizens Advice Craven and Harrogate Districts to provide quick access and specialist advice on Benefits, Consumer Matters, Debt and Money, Housing and Work for people with mental health problems and their carers.

The Acorn Centre is located in Harrogate and is a user led service which is run by Harrogate Mind. It is open to people aged eighteen and above who have any type of mental health disorder. It provides a friendly and relaxed environment where you can come and chill out, meet people, or involve yourself in the many and varied activities that take place within the centre.
The centre is well equipped and has a computer suite with internet access. There is also a wealth of arts and crafts materials with facilities for pottery and plenty of people with a helping hand should you need one. We have both a table tennis and pool table. There are coffee/tea making facilities throughout the day – all we ask is that you pay a small price towards the cost of each drink.

Hearing Voices Support Group meets Wednesdays 13.30 – 15.00

In addition to our Harrogate drop in we run a drop-in in Ripon which takes place on Fridays 10am - 1pm at Ripon Library.

Monthly drop in sessions take place at other venues across Harrogate District.
