Description of the role:

We are looking for new people to join the volunteer team at Ripon canal. Under the guidance of Julie, local operative, you will assist in a wide range of environmental and maintenance tasks from managing vegetation to greeting customers on the towpath. No two days will be the same! We are looking for people on Mon-Thurs who like being outdoors and work well as part of a team.

All applicants will undergo a selective interview process, unfortunately we cannot guarantee all candidates will be accepted.

The most important attributes are an ability to interact with and help others; a friendly manner and the ability to make a good first impression; a hands-on approach and can-do attitude, and flexibility to work on your own or with others. Ideally we are looking for someone who is locally based; and be available to work as part of a team.

Organisation Information

The Canal and River Trust is entrusted with the care of 2,000 miles of waterways in England and Wales. On top of maintaining canals and rivers that are often over 200 years-old, we are responsible for an enormous network of bridges, embankments, towpaths, aqueducts, docks and reservoirs alongside everything else that makes up our wonderful waterways.

Our mission is to inspire as many people as possible to connect with our canals and rivers. We believe that the true potential of our canals and rivers and their long-term survival will only be secured if we fully engage with our visitors, neighbours and business partners.
