Description of the role:

We are looking for a trustee to join our Board at a very exciting time for the organisation. As trustee part of your role will be giving strategic direction to the organisation, setting overall policy, defining goals and setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets. Trustees of Disability Action Yorkshire are also Directors of the organisation and are registered with Companies House as such.

Skills and qualities needed for the role:

We are looking for a trustee with particular skills, experience and knowledge of learning and training, particularly in the post 16 sector. Our Training department is growing fast and the Board would very much like one of their number to take strategic oversight of this part of the organisation.

Practical information:

Trustee Board meetings are held every other month, usually starting at 5pm, at our Head Office on Hornbeam Park, Harrogate. A Board Development session is held at least once a year. Trustees are encouraged to attend social and fundraising events as well as providing support to staff on particular projects.

Our offices are fully accessible, with good parking and public transport links nearby.

Personal care and support for younger physically disabled people at our residential facility 34 Claro Road
A personal assistance service working with disabled people within their own homes and the local community
Training for younger disabled people and adults in the skills required for employment, life skills and accredited courses, this is linked to a furniture warehouse selling pre-used, quality furniture, on a commission basis, to the general public
Our Enterprise Training Project aims to provide disabled people with the skills and knowledge to become self employed.
Offering advice and practical support on helping someone to live their life more independently, including advice on assistive technology
A buddying scheme matches volunteers to enable people to achieve personal life goals, whatever they may be
Our Think Access project we work with local businesses and community leaders with the aim of making Harrogate totally accessible
Fully accessible holiday accommodation in a beautiful lodge in the Lincolnshire Wolds
