Description of the role:

Making and serving tea and coffee to our visually impaired members clearing away and loading dishwasher. You will be given the option of being involved with the class that you would be serving refreshments to (some volunteers do, some don't, it's a personal choice).

Tuesday craft class/coffee and crosswords - 10am - 11.30am
Thursday line dancing class - 2pm - 3.30pm
Friday Afternoon entertainments - 1.30pm - 3.45pm

Organisation Information

During the coronavirus outbreak, the following services are still running:
• The home visiting services has been temporarily replaced with telephone befriending. This service is available to anyone with sight loss who would like someone to talk to or who needs a little extra support. Vision Support members are also being telephone befriended.
• The sight loss help and advice line is available on 01423 565915. The team are able to help with understanding TV licence changes.
• Telephone appointments can be made with the ECLO (Eye Clinic Liaison Officer) for people new to sight loss and those who have recently been diagnosed with a serious eye condition. This service offers practical and emotional support.

The Centre is an independent, local charity that supports visually impaired people in Harrogate and the surrounding district. We seek to enable visually impaired adults from the age of 18 and above to live independently and provide opportunities to meet and interact with others. We offer Information technology training; provide advice on help that is available; information on visual impairments and have talking clocks. watches and other equipment to view and order if required
We run various craft and other groups (See the daily schedule) on a regular basis There are also opportunities to socialise, including meals out and excursions. In addition to activities in the Centre, we make home visits and run a telephone befriending service to help tackle social isolation.
