Description of the role:

Wellspring is a Christian charity which offers affordable counselling to the community. As a Wellspring Welcomer you will play a key part in the charity by welcoming clients and providing cover for our counsellors. This is a voluntary position but travel expenses are reimbursed.

Welcomers volunteer for a morning, afternoon or evening a week. (Monday to Thursday between 9 am and 8.30 pm). The slots are usually about 2-3 hrs and we ask for a minimum commitment of 3 months.

Core responsibilities and duties

• Man the reception desk in our waiting area
• Provide a warm welcome to clients and other visitors
• Help with keeping the building clean & tidy
• Answer incoming phone calls as needed. This may involve dealing with enquiries for information about counselling, client cancellations, etc.
• Take and relay messages to staff & counsellors
• Occasional help with basic clerical tasks, such as photocopying, collating application packs, shredding, etc as required

Skills and qualities needed for the role:

You would be very discreet and confidential, have the ability to relate well to all people, be a team player, reliable and honest, have good mobility (as there are stairs) and in sympathy with the organisation's Christian ethos.

Organisation Information

During the coronavirus outbreak, we have unfortunately had to close our building, however referrals for counselling can still be received remotely. All counselling is being delivered over the phone or through zoom. The service is running at a reduced rate but the team is committed to continuing to offer their services. All planned training and group support has been suspended until further notice. Resources to promote positive emotional wellbeing at this time will be posted to the website. Wellspring is a counselling and training centre in Starbeck. We provide affordable psychological support to adults, children and young people in distress and promote good mental health. We work to restore hope, develop resilience and facilitate positive change.

Wellspring also offers a variety of high quality training events throughout the year designed to enhance our personal wellbeing and ability to support others.
The 8 week Empower course is for teens aged 13-18 to explore, explain and improve self-esteem.
