Description of the role:

Through volunteering your time at Saint Michael’s you are supporting those in our community who are experiencing terminal illness or bereavement. Volunteers are integral to the work of Saint Michael’s and we would love to welcome you to our team.

About the role:

The Community Lottery was established in 2000 ad since then has provided over £2.5 million towards patient care. The weekly draw is drawn every Wednesday and gives players the chance to win a first prize of £1000, 2nd prize of £100 and 30 chances of £10 every week. The team work hard to retain lottery players and to accrue new members in a variety of different ways such as setting up pop up stalls in local retail outlets and door to door canvassing in the local area.

We are seeking volunteers who can help with:-
Going to external venues to promote The Community Lottery
Attend agricultural and community shows/gala's/events to promote The Community Lottery
Taking details from members of the general public who wish to join The Community Lottery
Ensure GDPR guidelines are met
Raise awareness of our services

Skills and qualities needed for the role:

We are looking for a volunteer who has:

 Proactive, can-do approach;

 Good organisational skills;

 Valid driving licence (travel costs will be covered);

 Confident, friendly and approachable;

 Good customer service and persuasion skills;

 Able to communicate in a courteous manner with supporters

A knowledge of Saint Michael’s, its purpose and services would be advantageous, but we can offer training in this

Practical information:

Training required:

All volunteers will receive an induction into the organisation and the role they will be undertaking. They will also be required to attend an annual health and safety briefing and undertake annual safeguarding training where appropriate.

We offer thorough induction and training. Travel expenses are covered up to a maximum of £25 per month unless by prior arrangement with the appropriate Line Manager. We are also happy to provide references.

Saint Michael's Hospice offers a range of specialist services to help local people living with terminal illness achieve the best possible quality of life. Services offered from the Hospice include: lymphoedema support, day therapy, inpatient care, support for families and carers, bereavement support. Patient services are delivered by a team of specialists, including consultants, dieticians, doctors, nurses, social workers, complementary therapists, chaplains, physiotherapist, psychologists, occupational therapists, social workers and support workers. This team works in partnership with other health and social care professionals involved with patients to ensure all care is personalised to meet a persons particular needs.
