Jennyruth Workshops
Description of the role:

We are seeking an additional trustee to join the charity's board. Some of our trustees also work as volunteers in the workshop or support the charity in other ways such as property management. We would like to hear from interested people with any relevant experience but expertise in one or more of the following areas would be especially welcome:
- financial expertise
- employment law and current best practice;
- the voluntary sector and fundraising.

Jennyruth Workshops is a productive social enterprise (and registered charity) for adults who have learning disabilities, located close to Ripon. Jennyruth Workshops aims to teach the workers a variety of transferable work skills to equip them for possible future employment and provides opportunities which enable them to be more independent, confident, and to make a positive contribution to their community. This is achieved through the production and marketing of a wide variety of wooden and other craft products, including made to order items. Jennyruth Workshops fundamental purpose is to improve the quality of life of people who have learning disabilities.

Skills and qualities needed for the role:

Expertise in one or more of the following areas would be especially welcome: finance; employment law and current best practice; the voluntary sector and fundraising.

Practical information:

Trustee meetings are held in the evenings every two months, either at the workshops based at Red House Farm just outside Ripon, or via Zoom depending on current regulations. Own transport would be required due to the location.

We ensure that volunteers understand our policies and procedures and most importantly our ethos.

The workshops have been closed to visitors during the coronavirus outbreak and our learning disabled workers have been working from home. We are still making our lovely wooden products which you can have delivered to your door from the online shop

At Jennyruth Workshops, adults who have learning disabilities gain confidence, independence, work and life skills. It is a vibrant and challenging workplace where workers from Ripon and surrounding areas are trained in a wide variety of skills.

We design and make a range of handcrafted gifts and products for all the family. We are also proud of our bespoke products which are tailor made to our customers’ specifications.

As well as producing and selling high quality products, our workers are trained in numeracy, literacy, computers and communication skills through a rolling programme of assessment and evaluation.

Our aim is to bring self-awareness, pride, dignity and self-confidence to the Workers and to help develop their potential for participation and employment in the community.
